Clairrow started around my parent’s dinner table over a
few glasses of wine. As a family, we’d recently purchased
a rehabbed row house, where my sister and I were
planning to live. I thought it’d be easy to design our new
living space – our mother is an interior designer, so I
grew up in the industry. She’s owned Davin Interiors, a
residential firm in Pittsburgh, for 20 years, and
I’d recently joined her team full-time.

But once we started discussing options, my sister and I
were totally stuck. How would we mix our styles?
Where could we purchase quality products in our
budget? Would those pieces be the right size or scale?

Luckily, we had our mom to guide us through the
process. But, I saw firsthand how difficult it is to pull one
room together, let alone a whole house. The home is
meant to be a source of comfort, where you rest and
recharge. Without our design-fairygodmother-mother
to steer the ship, our home would instead be a major
source of stress.

So, what do you do if your mom is an accountant?
Everyone deserves a home that brings a sense of calm
and joy. Everyone deserves the guidance of my
design-fairygodmother-mother.

I kept coming back to this problem: there’s no go-to
resource to guide you through designing your own
home. The world is full of design inspo websites or “we’ll
do it for you” services. But what about the very capable
design-DIYers, who just need a bit of direction?

The name “Clairrow” is a mashup of the street name and
town of my childhood home, where my parents still live
today. It’s the same cozy house with the dinner table
around which this idea was born. And that’s what I hope
Clairrow inspires - a home with that same sense of
comfort, warmth, and togetherness.
