Hello, I’m Jonathan Mitchell, MA, LPC, & practicing monk.

My journey into psychotherapy and coaching is rooted in my own experiences and challenges during youth plus my own transformation as an active and engaged “real-life” monk in the world. I'm here to share my insights and guide young people and families towards a path of understanding and growth.

Growing up, I experienced a lot of the same difficulties young people struggle with today. Anger, depression, anxiety, and insecurity ruled my life. I spent a lot of time angry at my parents, getting high or drunk, and was repulsed by the idea of therapy. But it wasn’t my parents or therapy or the system that I hated - it was me.

Now? I’m grateful for those experiences. Because when young people tell me about their struggles with parents, friends, and school, I don’t have an ounce of judgment. I get it. And I’ve made it my life’s mission to help other young people get through their struggles too.

My mission is to help struggling young people find positive change, through understanding and empathy.

My strategy is simple, yet sophisticated.

First, I always seek to understand. I listen intently and get curious. I genuinely want to learn how my client’s world occurs to them. Second, I do all I can to create influence through offering insight based on my understanding. Once I feel like I have a grasp on what might be happening, I might offer a new perspective. “Might” being the operative word. If it doesn’t go well, I go back to understanding. Understanding is everything and it always informs the most meaningful relationships.

Over the last two decades, I’ve worked with families and young people going through very similar struggles that I did. I’ve lived and worked with these wonderful young people, and passionately sought to understand the nature of their difficulties while at the same time. I’ve honed who I am to become someone who can help, understand, and ultimately, inspire.

Understanding is everything.
